The Pride of Africa. Restored wood-panelled carriages from the 1920s to 1950s, rebuilt by hand at Rovos Rail's own workshops in Pretoria, running south through the Karoo to Cape Town.
No televisions and no telephones only an open-air observation car at the rear, a dining car requiring black tie, and Royal Suites that take up half a carriage with a Victorian bath. Diamond mine at Kimberley, the Great Karoo by night, and the Hex River Valley into Cape Town.
